You probably know by now, or you haven't been paying attention, that music is a big part of what we do here at Black Shirt Brewing Co. We often brew beers with specific bands and specific songs in mind as part or all of the inspiration behind the beer. Often times, we are able to brew with the bands and with people who spark this creativity. It's been the realization of a dream. When rythm, vibration, tonality, grain, and hops combine...that's when the magic happens for us.
This year, we built a stage in our beer garden to highlight these bands that inspire so much of what we do. You can read all about the stage here - http://www.westword.com/music/black-shirt-brewing-now-features-live-music-on-its-awesome-palette-stage-6772998. It was an ambitious plan for a brewery with so few people running the gadgetry and firing the missiles, but it was something we felt we had to do. We battled through 5 weeks of rain, our brew staff had to become sound engineers, the service staff had to learn how to set up and tear down a PA system, we all had to polish up on our wristband attaching skills! We designed many concert calendars and concert posters, we booked bands that we loved & that we thought were pushing their craft like us, we did our best to let the general public know about each and every show.
The end result was amazing and we can't thank the bands, the crowds, our dedicated staff, and our team of conspirators that all chipped in to make this summer a great success! Here are some pics from it all...
And then, the summer series culminated in one of our favorite moments when 3 year old Robert Miller (owners Chad and Carissa's son) too the stage with Matt Hoffman of New Mexican / Strange Americans to play harmonica on one of Matt's songs. It was a moment that none of us will ever forget!
